What Best Bus Branding actually is
A bus advertising business that works inside Maharashtra and nowhere else, on city buses and MSRTC state transport buses. This page says what we sell, how we price it, and what we will not do — because the rest of this site is numbers, and you should know who is publishing them.
The position, in one paragraph
Almost nobody in this market publishes a rate. The default is a form that says 'ask us', which means the buyer cannot compare anything without three phone calls. We publish supplier-quoted rates with the date they were quoted, name the depots, and give the fleet counts we can stand behind. That is the entire position.
How that holds up
Rates are published, dated and sourced
Eighteen rate lines held against eight separate supplier quotes, each carrying the date it was given and a stated validity. Where we do not hold a rate for a city, the page says so and quotes on request rather than inventing a figure.
Fleet numbers are marked confirmed or not
Five of the fifteen operators have no fleet figure we can verify, and their pages say 'Ask' instead of a number. The 22,104 buses we do claim is a floor, not a marketing round-up.
The depot directory is the work nobody else does
297 depots across 31 MSRTC divisions and six municipal fleets, with the areas each one covers. Booking a bus fleet means booking a depot, and no competitor publishes this.
The awkward parts are on the site, not in the contract
Mid-campaign artwork changes are charged again in full. Vinyl damage is excluded by standard industry terms. GST is 18% on top of every figure here. Reflective tape cannot be covered. All of it is published before you enquire.
What we do not do
- Any state other than Maharashtra. Not Gujarat, not Karnataka, not a national campaign.
- Bus shelters or bus stops. Every format we sell is on the vehicle.
- Barter deals.
- Fleet counts, depot names or prices we cannot source.
How to reach us
Email is the only channel, on purpose: an enquiry that lands in sales@bestbusbranding.com is logged, owned and answerable by whoever is on the desk, rather than sitting on a personal handset. The quote form routes to the same place with the detail already attached.
What buyers ask before they enquire
Who gives permission for bus advertising in Maharashtra?
The operator does, because the operator owns the bus. MSRTC, BEST, PMPML and the municipal undertakings each award display rights on their own fleets, normally through a tender or an appointed agency, and that is the permission that actually governs whether your artwork goes on a bus. Separately, the municipal corporation licenses outdoor advertising in its own area — in Mumbai that sits under sections 328 and 328A of the BMC Act 1888 — and the rules differ from one corporation to the next. We handle the operator side of that. Tell us the city and we will tell you what the local corporation expects before you commit a budget. This is how it works in practice and not legal advice: confirm the current position for your campaign with the operator and your RTO.
Is bus advertising legal in India?
Yes, and it is routine. Public buses have carried advertising in Indian cities for decades. The Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989 govern what may be done to the vehicle itself, and section 52 of the Act is why alterations to a registered vehicle's appearance are not something an advertiser can arrange privately — the display rights sit with the operator. What makes a campaign unlawful in practice is almost never the advertising. It is the execution: covering something the law requires to stay visible.
Can a bus wrap cover the reflective tape?
No, and this is where campaigns actually get stopped. Rules 104 and 104D of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989 require commercial vehicles to carry retro-reflective tape in red, white and yellow to the AIS:090 standard, because it is what makes a bus visible to a driver behind it at night. Mumbai's RTOs have acted against more than 100 BEST buses whose wraparound advertising concealed that tape — 89 at Tardeo alone and 25 more between Andheri and Borivali — with a ₹1,000 fine for a first offence. Artwork has to leave the reflective tape, the lights, the number plates and the emergency exits clear. We check for it before anything goes to print, because a bus pulled off the road is a bus not carrying your brand.
What happens to a bus wrap in the monsoon?
Maharashtra gets four months of hard rain, so it is a fair question and most suppliers avoid it. Laminated cast vinyl handles water perfectly well; what fails is edges and seams, usually on a bus wrapped in a rush or washed with a pressure lance held too close. Be aware that standard industry terms exclude torn, stolen or overlapped vinyl — we would rather tell you that now than leave it in a contract for later. We inspect the fleet while a campaign is running so damage gets repaired while it still matters, and if you are planning a June start we will say plainly that the season affects it rather than pretend it does not.
How do I know the buses actually ran?
You get dated photographs at the start of the campaign and at intervals through it. Proof-of-posting standards vary widely in this industry — a couple of photos at the start and end, with nothing in between, is common. We treat it as part of the deliverable rather than a favour.
What artwork do you need, and when?
CDR or PDF, at least three days before the campaign starts and ideally earlier. Production runs four to seven working days from the point we have artwork, a purchase order and payment — counted from then, not from the day you brief us. Each bus class has its own template, which we supply. Changing the design once a campaign is running means printing and mounting is charged again in full, so lock the artwork before production starts.
